The Connecting Activities initiative uses three Work and Learning Levels:

Level A: Brokered Work and Learning placement

Level A is designed to support all students. Placements are brokered by school staff, Connecting Activities providers or Connecting Activities partners. "Brokering" may include direct placement, job search assistance, career advising, development of work-based learning plans, and/or connecting the placement with classroom or after-school learning.

Level A may include placements with or without a work-based learning plan. The number of work-based learning plans will be included in the quarterly report, and providers are encouraged to develop work-based learning plans with as many students as possible.

Level B: Targeted Work and Learning placement with a Work-Based Learning Plan, connected to career or academic development.

Level B is designed to support students in MCAS Level 1 (Failing/Warning) and MCAS Level 2 (Needs Improvement). It is also open to students who participated in alternative assessment

Level B placements include brokered internship/co-op placements with Work-Based Learning Plans and with strong connections to career or academic development. In some cases, placements are connected to a course, a summer or after-school program, a Career Pathway or a Career and Technical Education program. In other cases, placements are connected to a student's individual academic or career development interests and needs through the choice of placement, through student advising, or through the Work-Based Learning Plan.

Level C: Integrated Work and Learning placement with a Work-Based Learning Plan, connected to MCAS preparation.

Level C is designed to support students in MCAS Level 1 (Failing/Warning). It is also open to students who participated in alternative assessment.

Students participate in fully integrated "work and learning" models, such as Classroom in the Workplace, Project Success, or Summer of Work and Learning.

NA: Not Applicable (Not Work-Based Learning)

NA is used for activities other then work-based learning - such as job shadowing or career fairs.
