The popup lists of Schools, Cities and Zip codes and Career Areas are based on the information in the files Schools.skl, CityZip.skl, and CareerAreas.skl. If you want to shorten and/or edit these lists, do the following.
CityZip. From the main menu, open the CityZip.skl file. Do a "Find" to find the cities and towns in your region and then, on the menu bar, click Records, Show Omitted to show all the cities and towns in the rest of the state. On the menu bar, click Records, Delete Found Records to delete these records all at once. Or - if you prefer - you can do a series of "Finds" to find and delete smaller groups of records. (For example, find and delete Cape Cod, then find and delete the Berkshires, etc.) You may also edit or add to this file ... use Records, New Record to add records as needed.
Schools. You can also use the same technique to delete schools from outside your area. Recommendation: Keep the elementary and middle schools in case you want to track participation in teacher externships or professional development activities. You may also add schools to the list. Use Records, New Record or click the button to Add a New School. You may also edit the School information, including the name of the school, address, name of partnership/WIB, etc. (For example, you might change the name Wm. J Dean Voc Tech High School to Dean Voc Tech High School, so that the school will appear under "D" in alphabetical order.)
Career Areas. You can also edit the list of Career Areas. Open the file from the Scripts command on the main menu or from Window on the menu bar. Edit the list as desired. (The Career Area field, which is part of the Internship/Coop Placement screen, is flexible. For students in a career pathway, career and technical education program, or other career-related program, enter the name of program. For students who are in a elective course that has an internship component, enter the name of the course. Or enter the area the student is exploring, such as Health or Business.)
** Whenever you do a "Delete" there is a dialog box that tells you how many records you are about to delete, warns that the delete will be permanent, and asks if you want to proceed. Work slowly so that you can read this dialog box before proceeding. Do a backup before doing any major database changes.
