On the MCAS Scores worksheet, you can record MCAS scores for one or more MCAS tests for the student. It is designed so that you can record the student's entire MCAS history or just one or two scores. Ideally, for students who failed one or both tests, you will enter follow-up information that shows if they have subsequently passed. (Ideally: enter at least three test results: the initial ELA and Math results and any retest information showing if they subsequently passed and earned the competency determination. You may record actual scores (scaled scores in range from 200 to 280) and/or performance levels. Performance Level codes are: F=Failing; W=Warning (7th/8th grade test); NI=Needs Improvement; P=Proficient; A=Advanced; LEP=Limited English Proficient; ALT=Alternative Assessment; PASS=Passed MCAS (use if scores are not available and not necessary for database); Use "Not taken/At Risk" for students who have not yet taken MCAS because they entered the school or district after the tenth grade, and are eligible to participate in remediation.

Sample MCAS Scores Worksheet: |
Month | Year | Subject | Score | Performance Level | Test Grade Level |
May | 2006 | ELA | 210 | > F | x 10 o 7/8 |
May | 2006 | Math | 240 | > P | x 10 o 7/8 |
Dec | 2006 | ELA | 222 | > NI | x 10 o 7/8

On the School to Career Participation screen, two new fields summarize the student's MCAS performance level – the fields are named MCASLEVEL and ATTAINEDCD. These fields are calculated automatically from the information on the MCAS Scores Worksheet.
MCAS Level: The database will fill in a "1" for students who received a Warning or Failing grade in one or both tests. Although the student may have taken a retest and passed the test, the database will still show a "1" to indicate that the student needed and was eligible for an MCAS remediation program. The database will fill in a "2" for students who received a "Needs Improvement" on one or both tests, and a "3" for students who scored "Proficient" or above on both tests.
Attained CD: The database will fill in a "Y" (has attained competency determination) for students who have passed both Math and ELA or an "N" for those who still need to pass one or both tests.
You may enter just the scores (click the arrow button to fill in the performance level) or just the performance levels. You may type the information in as you enter each internship or you may enter information on many students at once using the full-screen version of the worksheet.
IMPORTING THE DATA: If you have the scores in an electronic format (Excel, dbf, FileMaker Pro, etc.) you can import the data. To import, you should open the file MCASScores.skl, and click File, Import Records. Choose the file in the dialog box, and then use the "Import Field Mapping" screen to indicate which field in your worksheet imports into which field in the database. If you don't have the same Student IDs in the two databases, you can import the student name and/or SASID instead and then add the database Student IDs afterwards.
